Gray Scott summer school 2026

The Gray Scott summer school

The Gray Scott School is an advanced training program dedicated to High-Performance Computing (HPC), led by experts from IJCLab, CNRS, Inria, LUPM, LPNHE & LISN. The training focusses on programming and optimization on Heterogeneous Architectures.

This summer school, is organized yearly by Laboratoire d’Annecy de Physique des Particules (LAPP, CNRS – CNRS Nuclei & Particles), in collaboration with the CC-FR Competence Centre, and is entirely free of charge. Participants can attend the event on site in Annecy, France, on one of the satellite sites around the world, or online. The University of Luxembourg HPC facility is hosting a satellite site for the event every year.

Gray Scott satellite sites

Satellite sites allow for remote attendance of the Gray Scott school. Satellite sites provide

  • an HPC platform where participants can run the practical examples, and
  • a seminar room with bidirectional audiovisual link to the man site in Annecy,

to allow seamless participation to the school activities.

It is also possible to follow the school online, but most practical examples require access to an HPC system.

The programme of the 2026 iteration

The Gray Scott school 2026 covers the optimisation of computations on different types of hardware (CPU, GPU), presenting their respective characteristics, architectures and bottlenecks. It covers generic optimisation methods applicable to all types of hardware, as well as the various libraries, technologies and languages available to achieve the best possible performance. Ideally, the peak performance of the machine.

Through hands-on sessions, lectures, and regular technical webinars, the school equips participants with the skills needed to design, optimize, and scale high-performance applications.

The summer school is the in person component of the Gray Scott School 2026 that runs throughout the year. You can follow the weekly online seminars, Gray Scott Thursdays, throughout the year.

Satellite site in Luxembourg

The University of Luxembourg HPC facility is hosting a satellite site for the 2026 iteration of the school.

  • Participants in the site will be given access to the HPC facility of the University of Luxembourg for the practical work.
  • There are 30 places available.
  • Participants can follow any number of training sessions.
  • CCFR will provide certificates of attendance for the session that a participant follows.
